Market Life On The Road

There’s something wild and wonderful about living life on the road, chasing markets, and chasing the sun. For years now, I pack up racks of vintage treasures, fill the boot with camp gear and incense, and hit the open road in Sunny— my cheerful van and trusty travel mate.
Sunny’s not flashy, but she’s home. A little creaky, always full of sand, and smells faintly of essential oils and old records. She’s carted me across dusty highways, through coastal towns and tiny bush pockets, ferrying decades of vintage from the ‘60s to the Y2K era, all lovingly hand-picked and hung on racks wherever the market day led.
Every stop had its own magic. There were Sundays in sleepy seaside towns, setting up under a string of fairy lights before sunrise, the salty breeze tangled in silk scarves and lace slips. I’ve shared coffee with stallholders who feel more like family, swapped vintage tips over bakery buns, and danced in carparks as bands played sets in the golden hour.
Markets on the road aren’t glamorous — not really. There’s a lot of hauling, a lot of sunburn, and some wild weather. I’ve held down tents in high winds and dried rain-soaked cardigans on Sunny’s dashboard. But I wouldn’t trade a second of it. Every conversation with a customer who found their piece — the dress that reminded them of their mum, or the perfect denim for road-tripping — made it worth it.
Sunflower Seed Vintage was truly shaped by this rhythm of roaming and rummaging. I sourced everywhere I stopped, built collections that told stories from the land they came from, and created a brand that felt like freedom and nostalgia rolled into one.
Market life on the road taught me to stay curious, stay resourceful, and above all, stay true to my slow-made, heart-first way of doing vintage.
Thanks for coming along for the ride.
See you down the road,
